Frequently Asked Questions
Below are some common questions about lessons, and how the DO Tuition platform works. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, you can always contact us.
What is DO Tuition?
DO Tuition is an online tutoring platform that helps students connect with experienced tutors for one-to-one lessons. You can book lessons individually, or as a block-booking. With your account, you can manage lesson times, track payments and lesson credits, all in one place.
Who are lessons for?
Lessons are prepared by our tutors for students who want additional support in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) subjects at all curriculum levels below and including A-Level (subject to tutor availability). Other subjects may be available on request (please visit our contact us page).
Students under 18 must have a parent or guardian, who creates and manages their account and remains responsible for bookings and payments, as explained in our Terms & Conditions.
How do online lessons work?
Lessons are delivered online using a combination of:
- A video or meeting link (for example, a video call)
- A shared whiteboard or similar online workspace
- Resources that your tutor may share before, during or after the session.
The exact link for each lesson is shared via email once the paid booking is within 72 hours from the start time and the tutor has confirmed the booking. An email reminder with the meeting link is also sent one hour before the lesson begins. For online lessons, the student will need a stable internet connection, a suitable device (laptop or desktop is recommended), and a quiet space where they can focus to minimise lesson disruption.
How do payments work?
Payments and payment details are handled securely through our payment partners (including PayPal, or Stripe for card payments). We do not store full card numbers or CVV codes on our own servers.
Depending on the payment method and whether you book single lessons or as a block of lessons, your payment may be authorised and then captured immediately (if your bank requires an additional security check), within one hour after the payment method is confirmed (if PayPal is used), or within 72 hours before the lesson start time.
It is entirely in the tutor's discretion to set any block-booking discount. This block-booking discount is shown before you confirm your payment method for the booking.
Before you confirm a payment method, you are shown the 'Total Due'. This is the value of the lesson cost including any block-booking discounts. If you have enough lesson credits to cover the full lesson cost, then only the minimum transaction of £0.30 is due. We do this to ensure that every booking is linked to a transaction with our secure payment providers. This is described in more detail in the “Payments & Billing” section of our Terms & Conditions.
What are lesson credits?
In most cases, where a lesson is refundable under our cancellation policy, the value is returned to you as lesson credits rather than a cash refund.
- Lesson credits reduce the cost of future lessons automatically at checkout.
- They can be spread across multiple lessons until fully used.
- They are normally not withdrawable as cash.
The precise rules for when credits are issued and how much you receive depend on the time-window before the lesson that you cancel, as set out in Section 8 of our Terms & Conditions.
What is your cancellation policy?
Our cancellation policy is made to ensure that both students and tutors feel the right to cancel their lesson if they need to. The amount refundable is based on how close you are to the lesson start time when you cancel. The closer to the lesson, the lower the credit value you receive, and missed lessons are normally fully chargeable. If your tutor cancels your lesson, you will receive a full refund.
We endeavour to maintain a fair platform for our tutors and their students, so we politely request that changes to a lessson date or time are made as early as possible and only when necessary. The cancellation policy is explained in detail (including the different time windows) in Section 8 (“Cancellation & Refund Policy”) of our Terms & Conditions.
Can I change tutor if they are not the right fit?
Yes. We understand that the match between tutor and student is important. If you feel that your tutor is not the right fit, you can contact us via the Contact page and we will aim to match you with a new tutor, subject to tutor availability.
Any existing or future bookings will then be handled in line with our cancellation policy.
How do you handle my personal data?
We only collect the information needed to run your account, manage bookings, process payments and keep the platform secure. This includes your contact details, booking history, and limited payment reference information from our payment providers.
Full details are set out in our Privacy Policy, which explains what we collect, why, how long we keep it for and your rights under UK data protection law.
What should I do if I have a concern or complaint?
If you have a concern about a lesson, tutor, or how the platform is working for you, please get in touch so we can look into it.
You can contact us at support@dotuition.co.uk or use the form on our Contact page. We will aim to acknowledge your message promptly and follow up once we have reviewed the situation, as described in the “Complaints & Contact” section of our Terms & Conditions.
